Updated 2023 KTM 890 Adventure R: New body, updated electronics

Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM has unveiled the all-new 890 Adventure R motorcycle with considerable updates to the 2023 model. The 890 Adventure R is a popular model among adventure riding enthusiasts in international markets and was launched during the 2022 KTM Adventure Rider Rally held in Idaho, USA. Here are the key upgrades that will be available in the 2023 KTM 890 Adventure R.
Firstly, KTM has re-tuned the fully adjustable WP suspension package in the 2023 model. It features WP XPLOR forks at the front and WP XPLOR PDS shock at the rear. The set up has been re-tuned for better feel and reduced fatigue for the rider. The 890 Adventure R has also got major upgrades in terms of body work. The fairing, fuel tank and body cowls have been redesigned. It also gets a lower windshield, high front fender and a new engine protector.


The electronic suite in the KTM 890 Adventure R has also gone through a big upgrade. It now gets a 5-inch TFT display with USB-C connectors for added convenience. The user interface now gets coloured pictograms and intuitive graphics for easy operation. The new system also gets turn-by-turn navigation integrated into it. Another stand-out feature for 2023 is the ‘call-out’ function, using this a rider can set 10 phone numbers as favourites for quick calling ability.
In terms of safety, the 2023 KTM 890 Adventure R gets advanced dual-channel ABS that utilises an in-built 6D sensor to take readings and optimise braking performance as per the terrain. The system delivers this by continuously informing the CMU of the bike’s angle, pitch and other behavioural parameters. OFFROAD ABS functionality is also on board and is automatically activated when the motorcycle is in OFFROAD or RALLY mode.


KTM has also added a set of new ENDURO TRAIL+ off-road tyres to the 890 Adventure R, the tyres will be shipped with the bikes being sold in international and European markets. LED indicators and new graphics are part of the 2023 update as well. More importantly, the KTM 890 Adventure R for the first time, will feature a DEMO mode. This mode allows riders to experience all the specifications and options for the first 1,500 km, after which, the rider can opt in for their preferred features pack.


The outgoing KTM 890 Adventure R features a 889 cc, 2-cylinder, parallel twin engine that produces 104.6 PS of power and 100 Nm of torque. Its launch has been confirmed for the American and European markets but there has been no announcement regarding when it will arrive in India yet.
