Petrol, diesel price in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru on September 16


Petrol and diesel prices have remained unchanged again on September 16, 2022 for more than three months now. On May 21, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced an excise duty cut on petrol and diesel by Rs 8 per litre and Rs 6 per litre, respectively. Following the same, Eknath Shinde, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra had announced a Value-Added Tax (VAT) cut on petrol by Rs 5 per litre and on diesel by Rs 3 per litre on July 15, 2022.
The Meghalaya government was the last state to increase the VAT on petrol and diesel on August 24. Petrol price in Shillong now stands at Rs 96.83 per litre and diesel price in Shillong is Rs 84.72 per litre.
In Delhi, petrol costs Rs 96.72 per litre and diesel price stands at Rs 89.62 per litre, respectively. Petrol price in Mumbai is Rs 106.31 per litre, while diesel price in Mumbai costs Rs 94.27 per litre.

Fuel retailers, such as Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) set the petrol and diesel prices daily in accordance with foreign exchange rates and international benchmark prices. Retail petrol and diesel prices vary from state to state owing to local taxes, such as freight charges or VAT.
