Petrol, diesel price in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru on September 15

Petrol and diesel prices have held steady on September 15, 2022 for over three months now. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced an excise duty cut on petrol and diesel by Rs 8 per litre and Rs 6 per litre, respectively on May 21. Following the same, the Maharashtra government had announced a Value-Added Tax (VAT) cut on petrol by Rs 5 per litre and on diesel by Rs 3 per litre each in July.
The Government of Meghalaya increased the VAT on petrol and diesel on August 24. Petrol price in Shillong now stands at Rs 96.83 a litre, while diesel costs Rs 84.72 per litre.
Petrol price in Delhi stands at Rs 96.72 per litre and diesel costs Rs 89.62 per litre. In Mumbai, petrol and diesel are priced at Rs 106.31 per litre and Rs 94.27 per litre, respectively.

Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), such as Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) set the fuel prices daily in line with foreign exchange rates and international benchmark prices. Retail petrol and diesel prices vary from city to city due to local taxes, such as freight charges or VAT.
