Ola Electric switches gears, will open over 200 showrooms by March 2023

Expanding its existing digital-only sales model for the S1 electric scooters, Ola Electric is gearing up to open over 200 physical showrooms across the country by March 2023. The company currently has only 20 physical touch points in the country which will be substantially increased now. The ‘experience centres’ will reportedly be owned and operated by the company itself. Bhavish Aggarwal, Ola Electric CEO took to Twitter to announce the development.

Aggarwal’s tweet read, “Opening up experience centres across the country. 20 already, more than 200 by March! Customers loving the convenience of online purchases and test rides – thousands a day and growing. Experience centres will enable even more people to experience our products!”
With this move, the company clearly hopes to capture those prospective buyers who are not comfortable with the concept of booking a vehicle without physically experiencing it. Reports also suggest that these centres will serve as after sales and service touch points, which will help in building user trust and enhance the ownership experience.

After an initial high, the sale of Ola scooters has seen a constant decline over the past few months. With several reports of the scooters malfunctioning and other incidents of electric scooters catching fire, having physical experience centres to explain its product better, might be what the company needs right now. Vahan Dashboard indicates that Ola Electric sold only 3,421 scooters in August 2022, which is significantly lower than June’s 5,886.
