Jehan Daruvala inches closer to his dream of racing in F1 after bagging test programme with McLaren

Jehan Daruvala, currently India’s only hope for another Formula 1 driver, has bagged a test session with the McLaren F1 team. McLaren has announced that the F2 driver would be testing their 2021 Formula 1 car (MCL35M) later this week at the Silverstone Circuit in England as a part of the team’s Testing Previous Car (TPC) programme.
Take a look at the official announcement made by McLaren earlier today –

Daruvala, part of Red Bull junior team, is currently in the third position in the Formula 2 Driver Standings, making him the top Red Bull junior in the standings. This will be his first shot at driving an F1 car, inching closer to his dream of becoming only the third Indian to race in Formula 1 after Narain Karthikeyan and Karun Chandhok.
McLaren had also previously roped in IndyCar racer Colton Herta for this particular test, however, he is yet to make an appearance driving the MCL35M on track. The TPC programme aims to give young drivers a chance to drive an F1 car and also helps the team scout for potential talent for the future.
“I’m incredibly grateful to be getting this opportunity. Testing in Formula 1 is extremely limited and opportunities like these are not easy to come by, especially with a championship-winning team like McLaren. It will be my first experience in a Formula 1 car, which I’m sure will be special,” said Daruvala speaking about the opportunity.
“The support that I have received from the Red Bull Junior Team, my family and sponsors like Mumbai Falcons, coupled with this opportunity that McLaren have given me will enable me to prepare myself better to achieve my childhood dream of competing in Formula 1,” he added.
