Hyundai Motor Company has revealed that it managed to sell 3,34,794 units worldwide in the month of August 2022, recording a 11.6% year-on-year growth as compared to the 3,00,004 units sold in the same month last year. Out of the total units sold globally last month, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) accounted for 49,510 units or 14.78% of the total sales.
For comparison, Hyundai sold 49,224 cars in its home country, South Korea. This highlights that India is currently one of the most important markets for Hyundai. In the first 8 months of CY2022, Hyundai India sold 3,67,977 cars in the country – a 14.45% share of Hyundai Motor’s global sales of 2,544,681 units during the same period.
As of now, Hyundai Motor India’s portfolio consists of cars like Santro, Grand i10 Nios, i20, i20 N Line, Aura, Verna, Venue, Creta, Alcazar, Tucson, Kona Electric, as well as the Venue N Line that was launched in the Indian market earlier today at an introductory starting price of Rs 12.16 lakh (ex-showroom).
Hyundai also plans to launch two new EVs in the Indian market by the end of this year, i.e. a mid-life facelift for the Kona Electric SUV, as well as the Ioniq 5 that will become Hyundai’s flagship offering in the Indian market upon arrival. Nonetheless, Hyundai is currently the second biggest car manufacturer in the Indian market as far as sales are concerned, and the consecutive new launches will surely help the company further improve its foothold in the country.
